Sitting outside, cooking meat with friends and family in the sunshine is an old tradition that can be traced back centuries. Before you invite everyone over to show off the strides getting your house in order with spring cleaning, use these tips to plan a party that will really knock the socks off your guests and made your barbecue the one to beat!
Choose the right meat for your barbecue
If you’re grilling, the heat is typically somewhere in the 450-600 degree range, which is really ideal for steak. For added flavor and texture, try soaking some wood chips and throwing them into the mix.
Marinate the meat, it’s actually simple
If you’re cooking steak, you really only need a light seasoning; if you’ve decided to cook chicken or lamb however, you’ll want to focus on chili, cumin, mustard and honey to bring out the flavor. In a bowl, mix together a healthy drop of vegetable oil, a squeeze of lemon, 2 tsp of cumin, 2 tsp of mustard and 4 tsp of ketchup a tsp of salt and a tsp of black pepper. I always let my marinades sit overnight, but if you’re pressed on time try to get at least a couple hours for the meat to soak.
Let the meat rest!
After you take the meat off the grill, you need to let it rest for about 15 minutes, its best to do this on a metal, ceramic or glass tray like pyrex; it is also important to create a tent on the meat with tin foil. This is lets the juices reabsorb into the meat which results in a juicier, more tender meat with a more robust flavor.
Dip is essential, if not fundamental; you’ll need something for your guests to munch on as they wait for the main course! Chips and salsa is great, and everyone loves a little guacamole! A sweet dip is a great way to change things up too; if you’re like Reese’s peanut butter candy, this dip is for you! Dip Recipe
No backyard party is complete without drinks! If you’re lucky, someone else is bringing the drinks; if you’ve got the time and money to get a little bit creative, mix up a creative Margarita, Wine Slushies or yummy Dragon Fruit Sangria.
Lights, Camera, Music!
Set the mood with some great lighting. Citronella candles and tiki torches are always great for backyard parties, but they can be kind of messy and get beat up! Try some LED Tea lights; you can drop them in fancy cups or arrange them around tables and add lighting at different levels. If you’re really looking to get that wow factor, these lights from Lumens will look great for years and really stand out! As far as the camera goes, come up with your own hashtag for the party and encourage all your friends to take pictures! When they post the pictures, they’ll be easier to find and its a great way to recall the party later on! Last, don’t forget about music. These days it is easy to pick the right playlist with services like Pandora, Apple Music and Spotify. It can be as easy as typing in “Sunday Backyard Party” into the search; you’ll get a playlist that really gives your get together ambience.
